8. Understanding pets and their skills.

Why Pets?

Pets play a vital role in tlbb. Without a good pet your damage will be lower and also its alot harder to play your role properly in team/groups as well as solo or PK. So essential you should see PETs as your arm or leg. Its a vital part for you to understand and get correct in your early career in playing.

The categories of pet I will list because you first have to decide what kind of pet you are building to know what skills to add, what pet to search for and why.

Damage Pet

This is the most common build of pet. Its a pet designed to dish our damage.

BUILD: Depending on what kind of pet you have if its physical attack then you should add ALL STR or if its spiritual attack then add ALL INT.

Support Pet

This build is for classes like Lotus Order and Tao which requires mana, but also Shaolin and other classes can build a support pet for hp.

BUILD: Add all stamina to support pets, no stats elsewhere or you cripple your build.

PK Pet

This is a pet designed for PK. Its better if you take a Cautious pet mostly for this.add Devotion  as manual skill which transfer damage on you to the pet, Flexible reduces the damage on the pet helps to reduce the damage recieved from devotion,Distract reduces oponents defense and helps to get more attack on them,Weaken reduces oponents attack, these are primary skills SpiritDrain is helpful wihen pvp with taoist as it reduces their mp and make them weak,Calmdown reduces rage this skill can be used on your intrest.

SOLO Pet

This is a pet designed to help/assist you in solo exp. The best pets for this you need an essential skill which is counterattack and second the mood of your pet needs to be clever.

Pets which can auto-learn counter attack are crocodiles, boars, elephants and unicorns.
I think there are 1-2 others but this is an example.

Hybrid Pet

A Pet which is a mix of str/sta or str/agi etc... Hybrid pets are normally made to fulfill a specific role when you are lacking or weak in a certain area like to kill a certain boss or to provide damage and some heal etc...

Moods and inborn skills

A pet's mood and what they learn currently is absolutely essential in your build.

Brave - For pets which use skills like smash
Clever - For pets wich use skills like counter attack
Timid - For pets which use spiritual attack skills like thunder charm.
Cautious - For pets which use debuff skills like distract.
Loyal - For support pets this is vital. Loyal pets tend to agro mobs more in my
testing although this is theory its vital if you want a pet which holds mobs
while you can heal or help the group. If your support pet is not loyal it is
crippled in my opinion unless you just use it for mana refill or hp refill.

Further Examples

Understanding why moods are vital.

Tiger 1 (Brave) Str.Talent 2000 Level 50 with Smash Skill
Tiger 2 (Clever) Str.Talent 2000 Level 50 with Smash Skill
Tiger 3 (Loyal/Cautious) Str.Talent 2000 Level 50 with Smash Skill

Tiger 1 will cast smash about 10 times per minute. Assume smash is approx 2x
the normal attack.

In 1 minute if smash deals 5k damage you will deal 50k in damage.

Tiger 2 will cast smash about 7 times per minute.

In 1 minute if smash deals 5k damage you will deak 35k in damage (15k less than brave)

Tiger 3 will cast smash about 4-5 times per minute.

In 1 minute if smash deals 5k damage you will deal 25k in damage (25k less than brave)

how do we convert this to equiv talents?

Assuming the pet main skill is smash.

Brave real str.talent is 2000
Clever real str.talent is 1900 (Deduct 100 for simplicitiy)
Loyal/Cautious real str.talent is 1700 (Deduct 300 for simplicity)

So you can see don't be fooled when you buy a pet with high talent but the wrong
mood you can end up with a noob pet.

Pet System In Tlbb 2

Growth is affected by 3 categories

1) The pet's Level
2) The pet's growth title (Normal,good,prem,excellence,perfect)
3) If the pet is young or second generation/rare.

Other affects of growth: The skills the pet learn. Good and better have greater chance of learning
their subconscious skills.

Every 20 levels the pet growth essential is 1 title higher than a lower level.

E.g

A Level 65 Normal is similar in growth to a lvl 45 Good and Lvl 25 Prem etc...

Essentially the higher the level of pet you have the better base growth it has.

So don't faint if you get a Perfect Squirrel its actually not too amazing. however you can fall off your chair if you find a perfect unicorn or elephant. ^_^

2) The type of growth (normal, good etc..) will add onto the base growth per level.

If you want to build a pro pet then Excellence and Perfect is what you should aim for, if you want to see examples msg me XX in the game and I show examples of perfect pets I've breeded and excellence pets.

What do they do?

Well each time your pet levels it gains in stamina, phy attack, spi attack etc...

A normal pet growth might add 50 hps to your pet but a perfect growth pet will add around 100+ (This combined with stamina talents presents interesting options to pro pet builders)

3) Finally seconds by breed have a base growth boost compared to their young counterparts. So even if you find a 2k young normal it won't grow better than a 2k rare/second.

so how do we approximate???

Growth is more vital to support pets than dmg pets I explain why later.

Support pet approx.

A lvl45 young perfect panda with 1500 stamina talent has around 13,000 hps if we add all stamina to it.

A lvl45 young prem panda with 1750 stamina talent has around 13,000 hps if we add all stamina so essential the growth difference between prem-perfect is 250 sta.talent this is an example but I give you an approx for pets when they reach level 50+

1500 perfect = 1750 prem = 1850 good = 1900 normal

Dmg pet approx.

Currently I have not got an exact formula but I will research more when I develop my knowledge but I can say with factual proof that dmg pets dont really gain much or hugh benefits from growth titles. The biggest bonus you get I rank in this order:

1) Str/Int.Talent then Pet level then growth.

Meaning a lvl65 normal Winged monster 2k talent compared to an excellence winged monster at level 50 with 2k talent. Both will have 10k in Spi.Atk if we add all to int. the difference is approx around 500 in spirit attack which is nothing compared to what boost thunder charm gives.

The most important factor for dmg pets are their moods then talent then level then growth. So when breeding dmg pets. We are fine with growth good or better. We only want good minimum so we have more chance of gaining all the inborne skills.

 Growth Rate Formula
This is a pet growth rate formula for identifying pets growth without having to goto the NPC

So far this is about 90% accurate but as you gain experience in breeding you will understand more how to identify a pet growth.

D (C - ( A x B x 0.011 + 50 )) / Z

A Str
B Str.Tal
C Phy Atk
Z Lvl
D Growth Rate

Of course if the pet is int attack then substitue str = int and str.tal = int.tal.

For a lvl65 pet

<35.5 Normal
35.5 Good
36.5 Pre
39.5 Excel
41.5 Perfect

This is for a str or int based attack pet. If the pet is balanced at lvl65 you will need to deduct 3 from all e.g.

<32.5 Normal
32.5 Good

The formula is not 100% but in most instances it is.

I won't give you the tables for all level pets but you can use the

you can even use  this software to find it in Download

Making Six skills on pet guide
Main Method.

When the Pet is lvl1. You savvy the pet to 5 (This has been debated as making it eaier to add skills)

You then add 3 assist master skills.

e.g. strength assist,intelligence assist,agility assist.

Note if the pet has no open slots it will sometimes overwrite or make a new slot. Do this until 3 slots are open.

Once you have 3 slots open you can add a pet assist skill e.g. physical attack boost for pet and smash.

If phy.atk or smash replace a previous skill e.g. sta assist master then you buy back the sta assist and re-add back.

You repeat this process until you opened 5 slots.

Once 5 slots are open if you want the pet to auto-learn the six skill you can set the 5 skills to how you want. (Sometimes it will make six) and then level the pet to 30.

It can learn its 6th skill naturally all the way upto lvl90... However only use this method if you wanting one of the natural skills of the pet. E.g. like thunder charm for wing. Its not 100% guranteed to learn but if you wish to gamble or save gold this method can be effective.

This is the main method of making six skills on pet and can cost on average about 300g if you are buying scrolls directly in Lou Yang.
